Welcome to Yakushima-cho
Yakushima-cho has two islands, (cho meaning district)
Yakushima and Kuchierabujima.
Yakushima is located 70 km southwest of Cape Sata,
on the Osumi Peninsula, in the Kagoshima Prefecture.
Its shape is circular and has a circumference of about 130 km.
About 14,000 people live on the island.
Kuchierabujima is located 12 km northwest of Yakushima.
The circumference is about 50 km.
About 150 people live on the island.
In 1993, Yakushima was registered as a ''UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site,'' the first in Japan.
